Privacy Policy — New Message

The Society for the New Message from God

Effective 15 September 2026. Applies to the iOS application New Message (org.newmessage.nmApp).

The short version

New Message does not collect your personal information. There is no account, no sign-in, and no tracking software in the app. What you write stays on your device, and — if you use iCloud — in your own iCloud account, encrypted, where we cannot read it.

Information we collect

No personal information. We do not ask for your name, your email address, or any other personal detail, and there is nowhere in the app to give them to us. We operate no user accounts and no user database.

The app itself contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or attribution software of any kind, and no third-party tracking code. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and the app never presents Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt because there is nothing for it to ask about.

One thing does reach us, and it is not about you. Apple provides every developer with aggregate statistics about its apps — how many devices have installed New Message, how often it is opened, and reports of crashes. Apple assembles these from readers who have chosen to share analytics with developers in iOS Settings, and gives them to us as totals only. Nothing in them identifies you, and none of it can be connected to you, to your device, or to anything you have written — which is what keeps it outside the personal information described above. You can turn it off at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

What the app keeps, and where

Your use of the app produces information that is meaningful to you: journal entries and notes, passages you highlight, where you have read to, the practice steps you have marked, your reminder times, and your display preferences.

All of it is written to your device, in the app's own private storage. It is not sent to us. We have no copy of it and no means of obtaining one.

iCloud

If you are signed in to iCloud and have iCloud Drive turned on, the app mirrors your journal and progress into your own private iCloud container so that your other devices can pick them up.

Some things worth being exact about:

  • The data is encrypted on your device before it leaves it.
  • The encryption key is held in your iCloud Keychain, which is how your other devices can read it. The key is never sent to us and we never hold it.
  • The container belongs to your Apple Account, not to us. We cannot read it, list it, or recover it. If you lose access to your Apple Account, we cannot help you recover your writing.
  • Apple's handling of this data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • You can turn this off in the app, or by turning off iCloud Drive for New Message in iOS Settings.

Network connections

The app is built to work offline — the library and the practice are carried on your device. It connects to the internet only to retrieve content, such as the audio recordings of the revelations when you choose to listen, and to download updates to that content.

Content of this kind is held for us by third-party file-hosting providers. As with any request for a file on the internet, the provider receives your device's IP address and standard request information in its server logs. We send no account or user identifier with these requests — there is none to send — and nothing in them identifies you or connects one request to another.

We do not set cookies, and the app contains no web tracking.

Third parties

We sell nothing, because we hold nothing. We do not share, rent, or disclose personal information, and there is no advertising in the app.

We may disclose information if required to by law — though as a practical matter we hold nothing about you that could be disclosed.

Your choices and rights

Because we collect no personal information, there is no account to close, no data export to request from us, and no deletion request for us to act on. You are in direct control of everything the app holds:

  • To remove local data: delete the app from your device.
  • To remove the iCloud copy: turn off iCloud Drive for New Message in iOS Settings, or delete the app's data from iCloud in Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage.

If you are in a jurisdiction granting rights of access, correction, deletion, or portability — such as the EU or United Kingdom (GDPR) or California (CCPA/CPRA) — those rights apply to personal information a company holds about you. We hold none. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will post the revised version at this address and update the effective date above. If a future version of the app collects information — for example, if we add features that connect you with other readers — we will update this policy before that version is released, and describe plainly what is collected and why.
