오늘 정각마다, 이 말을 반복하고 그 뜻을 곰곰이 생각해보라. 당신은 정각마다 당신 삶에서 두려움을 떨쳐내는 법을 배울 것이다. 왜냐하면 앎이 모든 두려움을 몰아낼 것이고, 당신 또한 앎에게 그 자신을 표현할 권리를 주려고 두려움을 몰아낼 것이기 때문이다. 당신이 아는 것을 신뢰하라. 당신이 아는 것은 궁극의 선을 위한 것이다. 당신은 자신에게 엄청난 분노와 불신을 품을 수 있다. 하지만 이것은 앎을 향한 것이 아니라, 당신 개인적 마음을 향한 것이다. 이 개인적 마음은 당신의 큰 목적을 도저히 이해할 수 없고, 당신의 가장 큰 물음에 도저히 답해줄 수 없으며, 삶에 확실성·목적·의미·방향을 도저히 줄 수 없다. 오류를 범하기 쉬운 것을 용서하고, 오류를 범할 수 없는 것을 존중하라. 그리고 이 둘을 구분하는 법을 배우라.

오늘 두 차례 긴 연습 시간에, 당신이 알 수 있도록 두려움을 떨쳐내는 연습을 하라. 아무것도 요구하지 않은 채, 마음이 고요히 있으며 받아들이도록 허용하는 것은 당신이 앎을 신뢰한다는 증표이다. 이렇게 고요히 받아들일 때, 당신은 이 세상의 고통과 적대감에서 빠져나와 잠깐 휴식을 취할 것이다. 이때 당신은 다른 세상을 보기 시작할 것이다.
