오늘 각각 따로 세 번, 다른 사람 말에 귀 기울이기를 연습하라. 평가하거나 판단하지 말고 경청하라. 다른 어떤 것에도 마음을 빼앗기지 말고 경청하라. 그저 귀 기울여 듣기만 하라. 오늘 서로 다른 세 사람을 상대로 연습하라. 귀 기울이기를 연습하라. 귀 기울일 때 고요히 있으라. 그들이 하는 말 너머를 듣고자 하라. 그들의 겉모습 너머를 보고자 하라. 그들에게 이미지를 투사하지 말고, 그저 경청하라.

오늘 남의 말에 귀 기울이기를 연습하라. 그들이 하는 말에 끼어들지 말라. 다른 사람들이 당신에게 직접 말한다면, 그 상황에서 연습할 수 있도록 부적절하게 응대하지 않아야 한다. 당신은 대화에 온 마음을 다 기울여야 한다. 그러므로 시간을 들여 말없이 경청하는 연습을 하라. 다른 사람들이 그들 자신의 이야기를 당신에게 하게 하라. 당신이 처음 기대했을법한 것보다 그들이 당신에게 훨씬 더 깊은 것을 전할 것이다. 이 말이 무슨 뜻인지 몰라도 된다. 오늘 앎의 현존이 들려주는 것을 들을 수 있도록 그저 경청하는 연습을 하라.
