당신이 세상에 현존하면 세상이 하는 말을 들을 수 있고, 삶에 현존하면 삶이 하는 말을 들을 수 있으며, 신에게 현존하면 신이 하는 말을 들을 수 있고, 당신 자신에게 현존하면 자신이 하는 말을 들을 수 있을 것이다.

그러므로 오늘 귀 기울이기를 연습하라. 정각마다, 당신 주위 세상에 귀 기울이고, 또 당신 내면세계에 귀 기울이라. 먼저 오늘의 말을 확언하고 나서, 귀 기울이기를 연습하라. 연습은 잠깐이면 된다. 어떤 상황에 놓여 있다 하더라도 오늘 이것을 연습할 수 있는 길이 있음을 당신은 알게 될 것이다. 상황이 당신을 지배하도록 허용하지 말라. 당신은 어떤 상황에서도 연습할 수 있다. 남들을 당황스럽게 하거나 분위기에 어울리지 않는 행동을 하지 않고도 연습할 수 있다. 오늘 혼자 있든 남들과 함께 있든, 당신은 연습할 수 있다. 정각마다, 연습하라. 귀 기울이기를 연습하고, 현존하기를 연습하라. 진실로 귀 기울인다는 것은 당신이 판단하지 않고, 지켜본다는 뜻이다. 잊지 말라. 당신은 지금 앎의 위대함을 주고받는 데 필요한 정신 능력을 개발하고 있다.
