당신에게는 삶에서 완수해야 할 사명이 있다. 그 사명은 당신이 이곳에 오기 전에 받았으며, 또 이곳을 떠나면 되돌아볼 것이다. 그 사명에는 앎을 회복하는 일, 또 세상에서 특정 결실을 맺기 위해 다른 사람들과 적절히 결합하는 일이 포함되어 있다. 당신의 현재 삶이 이 큰 목적을 반영하는지 알아보려고 당신 삶을 평가하는 것은 지금 당장에는 그다지 중요하지 않다. 왜냐하면 지금은 당신이 앎을 회복하는 일에 참여하고 있기 때문이다. 당신 앎이 더 강해지면, 앎은 그 은총의 빛을 당신에게 비출 것이고, 또 당신을 통해서 비출 것이다. 그러면 당신의 활동들은 필요한 만큼 알맞게 조정될 것이다. 그러므로 당신은 현재 활동들이나 과거를 비난하거나 묵인하지 않아도 된다. 왜냐하면 당신은 지금 내면에 있는 큰 힘을 충실히 따르고 있기 때문이다.

오늘 두 차례 긴 연습에서, 당신 삶에 큰 사명이 있다는 말뜻을 곰곰이 생각해보라. 처음 당신에게 떠오르는 응답들에 곧장 확신하지 말고 주의 깊게 생각해보라. 이 말이 무엇을 의미할까 생각해보라. 살면서 전에 자신에게 큰 사명이 있다고 생각했거나, 그 가능성을 마음속에 품은 순간들을 회고해보라. 두 차례 연습에서 이것을 곰곰이 생각할 기회를 가지라. 하지만 아직은 어떤 결론도 내리지 않도록 주의하라.
