“오늘 나는 앎을 이성으로 이해할 수 있다고 생각하거나, 큰 삶을 개념화할 수 있다고 생각하지 않을 것이다. 또 단순히 개념이나 가정만으로 앎 자체에 온전히 다가갈 수 있다고 생각하지 않을 것이다. 이것을 자각하면서, 나에게 요구되는 것이 무엇이고, 내가 무엇을 나의 연습에 주어야 하는지 이해할 것이다. 왜냐하면 나는 나 자신을 내주어야 하기 때문이다.”

당신은 자신을 내주어야 한다. 단순히 개념들을 생각하고서, 그 개념들이 당신에게 가장 절실히 필요한 것을 답해줄 것이라고 기대해서는 안 된다. 오늘 이것을 자각하면서, 정각마다 연습을 반복하고, 깊은 명상에서는 앎을 체험하는 데에 자신을 고스란히 내주라. 고요 속으로 들어가라. 자신이 온전히 포함되는 것을 허용하라. 이렇게 할 때, 당신은 마음의 힘을 자신에게 이롭게 쓸 것이다. 이때 당신은 잡념을 떨쳐 버릴 힘, 두려움을 떨쳐 버릴 힘, 장애물을 뛰어넘을 힘이 자신에게 있다는 것을 깨달을 것이다. 왜냐하면 당신의 뜻은 앎을 아는 것이기 때문이다.
