진실을 듣고자 하는 소망은 참된 준비의 과정이자 그 결과이다. 듣는 능력과 듣고자 하는 마음이 커짐으로써, 당신이 찾는 것이 당신에게 드러날 것이다. 진실은 전적으로 당신에게 이롭지만, 처음에는 당신의 다른 계획이나 목표에 상당한 충격과 실망이 될 수 있다. 진실이 당신에게 가져다줄 확실성과 권한을 갖고 싶다면, 당신은 이 충격과 실망을 각오해야 한다. 진실은 항상 갈등을 해결해주고, 항상 자아를 느끼게 해주며, 항상 현실감각을 주고, 항상 당신이 나아갈 방향을 제시해준다.

오늘 15분간씩 세 차례 연습에서, 마음과 감정 너머를 듣고자 하면서 진실에 귀 기울이라. 들리는 것이라고는 온통 당신 생각에서 나온 소란뿐이더라도 개의치 말라. 당신은 지금 듣는 능력을 개발하고 있다는 것을 잊지 말라. 여기서 가장 중요한 것은 바로 이 능력 개발이다. 몸 근육을 단련하듯, 당신은 듣기라는 정신 능력을 단련하고 있다. 그러므로 오늘 연습 시간에 온 정성을 다하여 듣기를 연습하라. 그럼으로써 당신은 내면에서 일어나는 진실을 느낄 수 있을 것이다.
