당신이 이 준비 프로그램에 있는 계단들을 단순히 따름으로써 배운 많은 것을 생각해보면, 이 말이 옳다는 것은 매우 분명하다. 참여 없이 이해하려고 하는 것은 아무 소득도 없고 좌절감만 들며, 전혀 만족스럽거나 좋은 결과가 없다. 삶을 판단하도록 하는 것이 아니라, 삶에 참여하도록 우리는 당신을 준비시키고 있다. 왜냐하면 삶은 당신이 판단하여 알아낼 수 있는 것보다 훨씬 더 큰 가능성을 담고 있기 때문이다. 당신의 이해는 참여에서 생겨나고, 참여해서 얻은 결과이다. 그러니 먼저 참여하는 법을 배우고 나서 이해하는 법을 배우라. 왜냐하면 이것이 일의 옳은 순서이기 때문이다.

오늘 하루, 시간연습을 잊지 말라. 그리고 고요 속에서 하는 두 차례 명상이 더 깊어지게 하라. 두려움·불안·의심에서 오는 생각들 때문에 당신의 더 큰 활동이 방해받는 것을 허용하지 말라. 당신의 감정 상태와 무관하게 당신이 연습할 수 있다는 것은 앎의 현존이 당신과 함께 있다는 증거이다. 왜냐하면 앎은 모든 감정 상태 너머에 있어 감정에 구속받지 않기 때문이다. 별을 보고 싶다면, 구름 너머를 보아야 한다. 당신 마음속을 통과하는 구름 말고, 무엇이 두려움이겠는가? 두려움은 단지 마음의 표층 성격을 바꿀 뿐이다. 하지만 마음 깊은 곳은 영원히 변치 않은 채로 있다.
