누구든지 당신보다 더 단호한 사람은 당신을 설득할 수 있고 당신에게 영향을 줄 수 있다. 여기에 그다지 신비한 것은 없다. 이것은 단지 한 사람이 다른 사람보다 더 집중한 데서 생긴 결과일 뿐이다. 얼마나 집중하느냐, 어떤 영향력을 행사하느냐에 따라, 마음은 상대적으로 서로에게 영향력을 가진다. 앎이 당신을 설득하게 하라. 왜냐하면 앎의 설득은 당신이 지닌 위대함이기 때문이다. 다른 사람의 의견이나 뜻에 설득당하지 말라. 그들 앎만이 당신 앎에 영향을 줄 수 있으니, 그들 앎만이 당신에게 영향을 주게 하라. 이 영향은 다른 이들에게 지배·조종·설득당하는 느낌과는 사뭇 다르다.

그러니 당신 자신에게 집중하라. 앎을 따르라. 누가 당신 앎을 자극하면, 그때는 참된 설득력에 대해 배울 수 있도록 당신의 관심을 그 사람에게 기울이라. 그러나 세상의 불만·이상·도덕·요구·타협 같은 설득에는 영향받지 말라. 왜냐하면 당신은 앎을 따르고 있으니, 세상의 설득을 따를 필요가 없기 때문이다.

정각마다, 오늘의 말을 상기하라. 오늘 두 차례 명상시간에는 고요를 깊이 연습하라. 오로지 앎만이 당신을 설득하게 하라. 왜냐하면 세상에서 당신이 따라야 할 것은 앎의 설득뿐이기 때문이다.
