The Society for the Greater Community Way of Knowledge | About the Society

After spending many years receiving the New Message from God, Marshall Vian Summers knew that he needed a vehicle through which to present this great gift to the world. Thus, in 1992, he founded The Society for The Greater Community Way of Knowledge, a religious non-profit organization dedicated to presenting and preserving the sacred texts and recordings of the New Message from God.

At the core of The Society is a religious order whose members have chosen to devote their lives to attempting to live this great Message. They are dedicated to preserving the purity of the message and to sharing with Marshall Vian Summers the honor, burden and responsibility of bringing the New Message from God to a troubled and conflicted world.

God’s New Message is here to reawaken the experience and power of Knowledge in people everywhere so that humanity can find its common ground, preserve the world, protect human sovereignty and advance as a species as we stand at the threshold of space. The New Message is not just for a few inspired individuals; it is here to affect the movement of the world and to influence for the good the choices the human family will have to make in addressing the challenges and needs of our time and the times to come.

Marshall Vian Summers and The Society have been given the immense responsibility of bringing this New Message into the world. Yet this is a responsibility that far exceeds what they can do alone. It requires the efforts and support of many people. You, who may be among the first to receive and experience the New Message from God, can make a real contribution to this sacred endeavor.

The Sacred Order:

The Society is run by a formal religious community comprised of individuals who, of their own accord, have come to recognize that their life’s work is to learn and live The New Message from God, to be responsible for preserving its Teaching and to assist Marshall Vian Summers in bringing this new Revelation into the world.

As members of the Sacred Order, we are a small semi-cloistered community of married couples and celibate individuals. Together we seek to fully live and practice what the New Message has provided in its practical and mystical teachings and to build and maintain The Society’s work and mission in the world. We believe this Teaching represents a New Message from God and a new promise for a struggling humanity.

We are students engaged in a lifelong mission. We are building a home in the world for the New Message from God. Our principal task is to assist Marshall Vian Summers in bringing this new Revelation to the world and to become its first teachers and advocates. It is a privilege to serve in this way despite the sacrifices and risks implied in a mission of this nature and magnitude.

The work of the Sacred Order:

Our work and focus as members of the Sacred Order include the following activities:

Providing the Greater Community Services:

The Sacred Order provides monthly contemplative services at the Greater Community Sanctuary. We also offer monthly discussions of various aspects of the New Message Teachings. Several times a year, Marshall Vian Summers presents original teachings from the New Message and offers to the public the most timely revelations and prophecies that he has received. All of these events are offered as a gift to the public at no cost. As part of our mission, the Sacred Order maintains the Greater Community Sanctuary as a sacred environment where people from around the world can come and more deeply experience the presence of Knowledge and the meaning of the New Message for their lives and for the world around them.

Presenting the New Message to the World:

The Sacred Order presents the New Message Teachings to the public both at our Sanctuary and at conferences and gatherings around the world. Periodically, when our duties and resources permit, we travel to various parts of the world to impart the gift of the New Message to those who are looking for it and to meet inspired students and readers.

The world is a very big place. Since we are not able to travel everywhere and since the New Message needs to go everywhere, we rely on the power of the internet to make the Message available to people around the world, many of whom may not otherwise have access to its teachings and practices. We currently maintain three websites and offer the monthly online "Journal of the New Message." To serve those who cannot afford or gain access to the books of the New Message, we offer chapters and entire books as well as audio recordings of Marshall Vian Summers online at no cost to read, experience and to share with others.

The Greater Community School of Knowledge:

Part of the mandate of our Sacred Order is to serve the great diversity of students studying and applying the New Message in their lives. Our focus as teachers and ministers is primarily to empower students from all walks of life to discover the gift and calling of Knowledge in their lives and with it their unique contribution and service to a world in need.

The school is an environment for a pilgrimage experience—where people can come to the home of the New Message and experience the Sacred Order and Marshall Vian Summers at this historic time when he is in the act of receiving this New Revelation. At the same time, it is an opportunity to meet other students and have an objective experience of one’s own life and sense of calling.

Through The School, The Society engages individuals with the Great Practices of the New Message, which enable them overtime to make the transition to living a life guided by Knowledge while meeting the challenges of a secular life in the world. This is our focus with all students of the New Message with whom we come in contact. The School offers several courses each year where students from around the world have an opportunity to take the next step in their lives and to meet others ignited by the New Message.

Publishing the Sacred Writings of the New Message:

The New Message is a living Revelation that continues to be received to this day. Therefore, much of our daily activity is engaged in rendering the written and spoken messages for the benefit of people around the world. This involves organizing and publishing the vast body of Teachings and the prophetic messages that have been revealed to Marshall Vian Summers over the past 25 years.

To accomplish this, we created New Knowledge Library as the publishing endeavor of The Society. As a reader-supported press, we maintain an active presence in the publishing world. As a result of gaining national and international distribution, two of the books of the New Message, Steps to Knowledge: The Book of Inner Knowing and Wisdom from the Greater Community: Volume II, were honored with national book awards. At present, we have published nine books of the New Message, with many more sacred texts awaiting funds for publication. There is an urgent need for the New Message in the world. Time is of the essence. With limited financial resources, we are endeavoring to meet this great responsibility conferred upon us by the Source of the New Message.

Assisting Marshall Vian Summers:

As members of the Sacred Order, the first and most primary aspect of our calling is to directly support and assist Marshall Vian Summers in his task of receiving and presenting a New Message from God to the world.

Living The New Message in Community:

Fundamental to our ability to serve the New Message and to carry forth the work of The Society has been the strength, commitment and interdependence of the members of the Sacred Order. Here each of us has been required to learn to live in a way that makes us strong, competent, reverent and humble in our lives and work.

The strength of The Society is the foundation upon which the New Message rests. Forging this strength has been difficult to achieve given the challenge of balancing our tasks of serving the Message, providing for it financially, maintaining careers in the world and raising children. However, living and working in this Sacred Order has given us the focus and quality of relationship needed to carry out our work and to make our individual service possible. Beyond our work, we take our scarce but precious free time to enjoy the blessings and simple pleasures of our lives.

What has enabled us to endure the difficult circumstances of these formative years has been the amazing privilege of being the first recipients and witnesses of this Revelation, of being continually replenished and inspired by its Message as it has been revealed and by the unfailing dedication, humility and integrity of Marshall Vian Summers, its steward and its Messenger.

How we are supported:

As a religious non-profit organization, The Society’s organization, publications and public teaching are supported almost entirely by contributions from students and benefactors. At present, only a small percentage of our revenue comes from our publications —which all goes back into reprinting—and from our educational programs. The Society therefore relies upon the generosity and gratitude of the students, readers and benefactors of the New Message. As an independent religious non-profit organization, The Society receives no revenues or sponsorship from any government or religious organization.

The Sacred Order, however, is self-supporting. Those of us who are not employed by the Society work in full time jobs out in the world to support ourselves and our community. Maintaining these two arenas of work unfortunately divides our time, attention and focus which we would otherwise devote entirely to the work of The Society. This has limited our ability to take the New Message out into the world. These circumstances have also required that we maintain a very carefully managed economy of resources for ourselves individually and together as a community. To achieve this economy, we live simply and work collaboratively together to maintain ourselves and to cultivate our individual abilities in service to the Message. Ultimately, for the sake of the Message and the Messenger, all of us need to be able to make this our full-time work.
